prices

In nearly all countries , prices are substanially higher than before. In Federal
Republic the coast of living index was 12.76 taking the index as too compared with the possession in pre war days it had increased by 19.91 percent. From 19--- to
October 19----. Consumer prices rose in Federal Republic by 28 percent, as against
a rise in Switezerland of 23 percent in Italy 0f 46 percent . In HOLLAND of 44 percent,in the United Kingdom of 60 percent. In Norway of 71 percent, in Sweden of 69
percent, In Austria of 68 percent , and in France of 88 percent.

The rise in the various countries and in different Groups of requirement was not uniform. In the Federal Republic , the charges for goods and services in the fields
of heating and lighting , transport and house- rents have experienced in a particularly sharp rise since in 1950, where as those for education, entertainment,
food, cleaning , personal hygiene, household effects and clothing have not increased to same extent. In some cases , the prices for drinks clothing , cigarettes and tobacco are lowerthan they were in 19----.
Since the end of 19--- prices Generally have tended to rise furthur, and what with,
among other things , the demand for labour_ which provides Good food soil for wage
increased furthur rises are feared. The purpose of the measures taken by the Federal
Government and the German Federal Bank in the field of economic policies- including
not least the upward revaluation of the Deutsche Mark- is above all, to prevent a Wage-price Spiral.
Notwithstanding the price increases in many spheres, SINCE 1950 prices as a whole in the Federal Republic have risen less than in most other European Countries. The rise is more than evened out by the rise in actual incomes For a certain type of suit of medium quality, an industrial worker in Germany would had to pay in 19--.
The amout he earned in working 62.5 hours, and where as during the Korean Crises,he would have had to pay the amount earned in 83.5 hours , in 1956 only 60 hours would have sufficed. For a pair of ordinary shoes he would have sufficed. For a pair of ordinary shoes he would have needed to work 14.5 hours. IN 19--- as against only11
hours in 19--. In 19--- he would have had to work nearly three times as long as in 19---.If he wanted to buy a Volkswagen , the pay he earned in four- and - a - half hours would have bought one kilogramme of pork chops: In 1960 , it would have a bought nearly twice as much .
In Federal area the net earning from dependent employment of employees performing an average amout of work increased from 212DM ($50=$!8) per month in 19---. (excludding Saarland and WestBerlin) to 465 DM ($!!6=$42)in19---.This means an increase of 119 percent, In the same period during which the coast of living Index
rose 28 percent . The coast of living increased by own the average 2.9 percent, wages in industry by 9 percent and salaries in trade and industry by about 7 percent.
As Regards to the purchasing power of his wages the worker in the Federal Republic is more favourably situated than anyother worker in Western Countries. In case of high Grade goods in everyday use, Such as refeigerators, vaccum cleaners and television sets,he takes second place after the workers in UNITED STATES.
