The most important waterways in the Federal Republic are the Rhine with its tributeries- on which there is more traffic than on any other of EUROPES waterways- and the canal netwok between The Ruhr and Emden. The Rhine -Main-Danube canal, at present under construction, will form an artery from big ships from the North sea to the black sea. The cost of constructing the 677 kilometers(421 miles) that lie with in the German confines will amount to 1,500 million DM($375 million=$134million). With the opening to trafficof the port of BAMBURG,250 miles of the course of the River main will have been canalized. THE Canalized of the Moselle will be completed by the end of 19---.so far as tonnage is concerned.
